Perspective is a point of view, a specific attitude or manner through which a person thinks about or looks at something. Depending on your thought process in certain situations, your perspective can be what pushes you forward, or the weight that holds you back. So, if you want to progress and reach a goal, you need to make sure you look at it in the right way. Plan your path, and the steps you will be taking, in order to make the most out of your time and effort. Doing this may be the difference in your progression in a role rather than your peers.
To succeed, and make the most of leadership roles; or even when working in a team, it pays to learn about the different possible perspectives that can have an effect in your workplace and the workplace culture. We all know that people come to work all with many different expectations. When you take the time to push your perspective to the side, just for a moment, and try to understand how people feel different about aspects of workplace culture, you can then begin to interact more effectively and efficiently.
You can use the different perspectives to help you learn from those with different opinions, experiences and backgrounds. It can benefit your way of working, showing you things that you may not have thought about yourself, allowing everyone the opportunity to feel heard and understood. This in turn, helps you to broaden your own perspective and how you approach different situations in the future.
Of course, at some point, you will run into people who are less open to other opinions, or perspectives. In which they may approach things more cynically or will be stubborn to change. While this can be a challenge all in itself, it is also an opportunity to lead by example. You can demonstrate what it looks like to embrace different perspectives and you can show what happens when someone opens up to the different possibilities that could then present themselves in doing so.
As Albert Einstein said “No problem can be solved by the same level of consciousness that created it” So, being open to the different perspectives of others, and the possibilities they create can push you so much further than staying in your own little bubble. If you listen to interviews with CEOs of large companies and Entrepreneurs, they always say how they listen to those around them and their teams and all work together to help grow the business. How can you do that if you don’t listen, and then learn from others?
Think about how you learnt a new or different way to do something, that has saved you so much time, that you wouldn’t have learnt if you didn’t open your mind to listen to the different perspectives around you.
