Learning how to identify growth opportunities at work is essential if you want to succeed, as it can be easy to become too content in your current role which can be detrimental to your career.
I have been putting together some examples of how to improve your growth within the workplace, which will help to open up more opportunities and further your career:
Set some clear goals about what you hope to achieve:
By setting clear goals it will help to make it easier to decide what steps you can take to help achieve them. Check out my last blog ‘Why set goals for work?’ where I explain in more detail how beneficial this is for both individuals and companies.
Discuss your goals with a manager or colleague:
Make sure to have a discussion with someone you work with e.g. your manager about your career aspirations, as they will then be able to help you grow and develop within the company. If they know you are keen to take on new challenges they will start to trust you with more responsibilities. They can also be a good way to find out about any training opportunities, and if you work independently and don’t have a manager or supervisor then ask colleagues in the same industry for opportunities to expand your skills.
Actively search for new opportunities:
In order for success, go above and beyond by looking for opportunities to attend classes or extra meetings to expand your knowledge. Look out for chances to work on projects that will challenge you and grow your skill set, as by taking on new responsibilities you will be able to learn a lot about what you are truly capable of.
Keep track of your progress:
Throughout your career there will always be ups and downs which is why it’s important to keep track of accomplishments and regularly review your work. This will help you to stay committed and on top of your work if you are ever feeling demotivated.
Those that invest in their personal and professional developments more often see benefits such as new opportunities, greatest respect for co-workers and higher salaries… so follow these tips and you’ll be on your way to success!
