All business owners started out with a dream that they managed to make a reality, but why is it that even after taking a huge risk like starting your own business people often result back to just dreaming instead of doing? You want to make your dreams a reality but you have forgotten where to start, you’re not alone. In this blog, I speak about steps that I think are essential for helping you to turn your dreams into your reality.
My number one step is to make sure you do not fear failure. Failure is merely a lesson to help you on your journey rather than anything else. The fear that people create around failure stops so many dreams from being reached when there is no need. Use the lesson you have learnt to push you forward, you know it didn’t work so now it’s time to try something different. You don’t want to stay stuck in the same place asking yourself what if, you are capable of so much more than you think. Use your strengths to help you on your way and learn from the journey you take, it’s just if not more important than your destination.
Something else to look out for is other fears that may be limiting your potential. Sometimes we want to have more but can be scared off really fighting for them due to increased workload and responsibility. Some of us even have anxiety, thinking we are not worth more or deserving of our dreams. Sometimes it can be hard to fight this battle and you’ll have days where your head will win, but it’s not true, none of it is real. You need to try and identify the source of these thoughts and replace them. Once you do you will find it much easier to keep pushing yourself and showing yourself just how capable and deserving you are.
Look at your needs. We are all driven by needs, 6 in particular that are considered the 6 human needs:
- Certainty
- Uncertainty/Variety
- Significance
- Connection
- Growth
- Contribution
Looking at whatever your top need is can show a lot about what you need to do to help you reach your goals. Needs such as significance or connection suggest that you may feel as though you need to be following someone else’s dream in order to feel successful due to fitting in. Your dreams are completely valid and our differences are what make the world an interesting place, if we didn’t have different interests we would all be fighting toward the same thing creating a larger competitor pool.
Last but not least, take action! Yes, dreaming is significant towards inspiring us and leading us to develop our authentic selves but we then need to be able to grow from just words to actions. Developing our mindset so we want to focus on creating our dreams into a reality. Use your dreams and aspirations as a map to get you to your destination. It may not be the journey you wanted but it would certainly be the journey that you needed to help you stay accountable.
