There are two kinds of intelligence: one acquired, as a child in school memorizes facts and concepts from books and from what the teacher says, collecting information from the traditional sciences as well as from the new sciences.

With such intelligence you rise in the world. You get ranked ahead or behind others in regards to you competence in retaining information. You stroll with this intelligence in and out of fields of knowledge, getting always more marks on your preserving tablets.
There is another kind of tablet, one already completed and preserved inside you.
A spring overflowing its springbox. A freshness in the center of the chest. This other intelligence does turn yellow or stagnate. It’s fluid, and it doesn’t move from outside to inside through the conduits of plumbing learning.
This second knowing is a fountainhead from within you, moving out.
-RUMI, “Two Kinds of Intelligence” translated by Coleman Barks
Are you living your Dream?
Its easy to let the dream within you remain dormant simply because you are playing the game of catch-up in the real world. Yes you live in a real world and yes you have to master your profession, work hard to earn a living and pay your bills. But is that all there is to your life?
Here is a little exercise for you. With your eyes closed, look at the world around you. What do you see? Chaos, poverty, hunger, despair, hopelessness and war. The list is endless. With your eyes closed, take another look and see yourself making a difference in this same situation. Dream about your role in making this world a better place than you met it. Keep dreaming, the more challenging your dream, the more satisfaction you will get when you achieve it.
Here is another question. How far away are you from living your dream? I ask myself this question on a regular basis and my answer is always very far. So I make the necessary adjustments to my course.
Some years ago, I made a conscious decision to reduce the hours I work in my job. While I considered the pay to be good, I was not moving in the direction of my dream, my body turned up at work but my heart was not in the work. The lifestyle it gave me was not what I wanted. Not only that, I was not getting enough time to devote to my hearts desire. I didn’t quite my job because I still have to make a living, but I created the time to begin work on my dreams.
How about you? Are you stuck in a job? Don’t quite your job. Just keep your dream alive and begin to take small steps in the direction of your dream.
Set some new goals for yourself. A goal that will stretch you. A goal that will make you draw upon the greatness that your creator put inside you. You have to outwork that which is inside you. The world is waiting for the real you to come out and make a difference.
